Overview

RefClick is a Chrome extension whose single purpose is to create formatted references for journal articles.

Data RefClick accesses

When you explicitly invoke RefClick on the active tab, the extension may read bibliographic metadata available on that journal page, such as DOI, article title, author names, journal title, year, volume, issue, page range, and article number.

External metadata request

RefClick may send the article DOI to the Crossref API over HTTPS to retrieve bibliographic metadata. RefClick does not intentionally send the page's full text, your browsing history, form contents, passwords, or other personal information to Crossref.

Storage

Your RefClick preferences, such as the default citation style and notification setting, are stored using Chrome's extension storage. RefClick does not operate its own user account database in the current version.

Analytics and advertising

RefClick does not include advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, or behavioral profiling in the current version.

Sharing and sale of data

RefClick does not sell user data. DOI metadata requests are sent to Crossref only as needed to provide the citation-generation feature.

Permissions

RefClick uses Chrome permissions only for its citation workflow: creating context-menu commands, accessing the active page after a user action, extracting bibliographic metadata, copying the generated reference, storing preferences, and contacting Crossref/DOI services.

Changes

If RefClick's data practices materially change, this policy will be updated before or together with the relevant product update.
